GREETING and PRAYER

SOLO:O Holy Night”                                       Adolphe-Charles Adam

  Phillip Holmes

FIRST LESSON:  Genesis 22:15-18

CHOIR: “ The Lord at first did Adam make”  English Carol  arr. Martin Shaw

SECOND LESSON:   Isaiah 9:2, 6-7

HYMN:       [STAND]

1.                  Lo, how a rose e’er blooming from tender stem hath sprung!

Of Jesse’s lineage coming as seers of old have sung,

it came, a flow’r so bright,

amid the cold of winter, when half-spent was the night.

2.                  Isaiah had foretold it, the rose I have in mind;

with Mary we behold it, the virgin mother kind.

To show God’s love a-right,

she bore to us a Saviour, when half-spent was the night.

3.         This flow’r, whose fragrance tender with sweetness fills the air,

dispels with glorious splendor the darkness ev’rywhere.

True man, yet very God,

from sin and death he saves us and lightens ev’ry load.

4.         O Savior, child of Mary, who felt our human woe;

O Savior, king of glory, who dost our weakness know:

bring us at length, we pray,

to the bright courts of heaven and into endless day.

THIRD LESSON: Luke: 1:26-35, 38

Solo: “ Come unto Him”      (from Messiah)                                              G. F. Handel

 FOURTH LESSON: Luke 2:1-7

HYMN:   [REMAIN  SEATED]

1.                  Away in a manger, no crib for a bed,

The little Lord Jesus laid down his sweet head;

The stars in the bright sky looked down where he lay,

The little Lord Jesus asleep on the hay.

2.                  The cattle are lowing; the  baby awakes,

But little Lord Jesus no crying he makes.

I love you, Lord Jesus; look down from the sky

And stay by my cradle till morning is nigh.

  3.       Be near me, Lord Jesus; I ask you to stay

Close by me forever and love me, I pray.

Bless all the dear children in your tender care

And fit us for heaven to live with you there.

[children return to parents in pews]

FIFTH LESSON:  Luke 2:8-16

CHOIR: “A Child is Born in Bethlehem”                            Grayson Ives

     Arr. Martin Shaw

SIXTH LESSON:  Matthew 2:1-12

HYMN     [STAND]

1.                   I am so glad each Christmas Eve, the night of Jesus’ birth!

Then like the sun the star shone forth, and angels sang on earth.

2.         The little child in Bethlehem, he was a king indeed!

For he came down from heav’n above to help a world in need.

3.         He dwells again in heaven’s realm, the Son of God today;

and still he loves his little ones and hears them when they pray.

4.         I am so glad each Christmas Eve!  His praises then I sing;

he opens now for ev’ry  child the palace of the king.

5.         And so I love each Christmas Eve, and I love Jesus too;

and that he loves me ev’ry day I know so well is true.

2.                  Shepherds, why this jubilee? Why your joyous strains prolong?
